I know it's been a while since I've posted a sewing project. My husband and I recently moved and things have been really crazy. I finally was able to finish unpacking my sewing space and finally got around to sewing again. Since it's so hot here in Texas, I decided to sew something for myself using linen fabric, and when I came across this pattern that McCall's had on their website, I knew I had to make this right away!

I love that linen doesn't cling to my body and it's very comfortable to wear. When sewing with linen you're not limited to the standard whites and beige colors you normally see people wear in the summer. The fabric I chose was really lightweight and breathable, however, you need a really good steam iron to press this fabric out (it wrinkles like crazy).
Green is one of my favorite colors to wear so I chose this beautiful green linen fabric I purchased online at Fabric.com. I purchased 4 yards of this fabric because I wanted to make sure I had enough fabric on hand for this project. What I love about this pattern is that you can mix and match the top and bottom pieces. I chose to sew the knotted tie front bodice with the wide leg pants.

Overall, for the experienced sewer, I would say that this pattern was fairly easy to make. I did have to be extra careful when joining the top and bottom pattern pieces together at the seams to make sure they were lined correctly. The pattern calls for installing a zipper, so if you are new to sewing you probably want to work on your zipper skills before making this outfit. I've been sewing for a little over 3 years now, and I can finally say that I'm comfortable with zipper installations.

Since I'm small up top and curvier at the bottom, I cut out two separate sizes and graded them at the waist. This pattern also requires boning which stabilizes the bodice to help it stay up around your bust. This was my first time sewing with boning, and I'm glad I was able to work with it. I'll be more comfortable in the future when working with it on different pieces.
This pattern was really fun to work with, I will definitely sew this again using the knotted tie front bodice (with straps this time--I found myself constantly pulling the top up around my bust area) with the skirt option. A red linen fabric would be super cute!
