Pattern Review: McCall's M7683

The beautiful thing about being able to sew your own garments is that you have creative control over you want to look. I recently attended a formal wedding and I knew that I wanted to make my own gown.

I had the perfect pattern in my stash for the look that I wanted. When I first saw the M7683 pattern McCall's put out, I knew that this one would come in handy for such occasions as this one.

When I have a upcoming event and I know I want to sew up an outfit to wear, I usually try to give myself at least 3 to 4 weeks to prepare and sew it. I hate waiting until the last minute to make a garment because that's how mistakes are made. You're trying to rush through your project to get it done. I like to take my time sewing giving myself a chance to enjoy the process along the way.

I cut the size 12 of the pattern; however, the next time I make this gown (possibly in a stretch sequin fabric) I will cut a size 10 for a more fitted look. For the gown, I used this beautiful green ITY knit fabric. This gown was pretty easy to make, but I do recommend you give yourself a few weeks to make it (especially if you work during the day) because there are quite a few steps involved.

I'm glad I tried this pattern. If you are a seasoned seamstress you shouldn't have any problems making this dress. It will command attention anywhere you go! (Shoes: Christian Louboutin "So Kate")
